A beautiful route for advanced MTBers through the Strubben-Kniphorst forest. This is a unique area between Schipborg, Anloo and Annen. It’s the Netherlands’ only archaeological reserve. It’s home to a remarkable density of archaeological monuments, comprising two dolmens, around sixty burial mounds and field roads many centuries old. There are many sheep in the area.
Roughly 70% of this route consists of new single tracks. It also features banked turns and small hills. To prevent the track damaging age-old cart tracks, a wooden platform of almost 40 metres has been built. The rock garden that you encounter while riding the track was constructed using 24 tons of rocks.
The route can be started at Theeschenkerij (tea room) Homanshof in Anloo.
If you’re walking trough the nature park De Strubben from Schipborg to Annen, there’s, covered half-way, dolmen D7 to be find.
