The route takes you past Veenpark in Barger-Compascuum. Bringing Drenthe’s peat-related history to life, the park is well worth your visit. You cycle and sail through nostalgic villages and a natural high-lying peat area with real turf excavation (turf is the Dutch word for the combustion fuel peat becomes after it has been excavated and dried). The baker, grocer, clog maker and peat cutters work there every day.

This route is part of the route Drenthe Periphery 255 km, that runs along the border of the province of Drenthe. Within this long route, you can also pick and choose from among ten shorter routes—varying from 55 to 67 kilometres—or two routes of 135 and 170 kilometres.
Dolmen D35 is located near dolmen D34 on the northern edge of the Valtherbos. This dolmen is not very special, there are many stones missing and there is little structure to discover. Nevertheless, it is very special to go to the place.
