Industrial Narrow Gauge Museum and The Fine Factory

In the Amsterdamscheveld, the peat industry mainly focused on extracting the top layer of peat, known as bolster, which is very suitable for the production of peat dust. Three peat dust factories, a power station and workshops were built on the site.

The peat dust factory, which can be visited to this day, still contains the original production machines. The museum grounds are also home to the four-track narrow gauge depot from 1910, which served as a workshop for many years.

In this area, Vincent encountered the landscape that inspired him to come to Drenthe. In this setting, he painted an old farmhouse.
He wrote:
’in some places, you can find large, ancient sod shacks here that don’t even have a partition between the stable and the living room’. I plan to visit this area during my first few days here.'

Just past this point, along the Berkenlaan, you will find a Van Gogh vista panel.
