In 1852, the society built a building used as a lodge. Jan Hendrikus Bakker, the society's foreman at the time, managed the local inn and had to make sure that one room was always kept free, in case some great lord decided to visit the area.
Once completed, the property was occupied by bachelor Dommers, his mother Carolina Franciska la Paix and his unmarried sister Henriette. After his mother's surname, the building was named La Paix.
