Louis Dommers, administrator of the Drentsche Landontginning Maatschappij (Drenthe Extraction Society) lived in the beautiful La Paix house. From 1884, in addition to this position, Dommers was also the mayor of Schoonebeek municipality. One of the canals in the area is named after him. In a different way than Van Gogh, he was also a great lover of natural beauty. He loved trees such as oak and beech and over the years he planted thousands of trees in the area between the Vaartweg, the Zijtak, the Zwarteweg and along the Dommerskanaal. The double rows of trees are thus from his time.
